We have returned from a wonderful month on St. Simons.  It was really relaxing and we had great fun with good friends.  I used my new prime lens quite a bit and you can see most of the result in my new gallery (St. Simons Spring 2015).  I think that I was a bit re-energized by this approach and got some great images (but I am prejudice).

It is good to be back in the home routine and getting ready for summer here.  We will go back to the island in October for a few weeks.

Well I am trying to go back to my photographic roots a bit.  I have just purchased a prime lens for my Nikons.  This will give me the feel of shooting with a standard 50-55 mm lens.  This new lens is the Nikkor 35 mm 1.8 which will be super in low light situations.  Since I am using the DX sensor this will be equivalent to the 50-55 mm lens of a standard 35 mm camera.  My favorite lens for my old film camera was a 58 mm 1.4 which was a great lens for all around photos.  Even though today's zoom lens are so good, I definitely think a fixed prime lens is essential for any photographer.

We will be off to our island home for month soon and will have plenty of opportunity to try out the new lens.  In addition I finally purchased a new battery grip for the 7100 which will give the camera a great feel in both landscape and portrait modes.  It will also put two batteries to work for the entire trip.  Getting to warm weather after this winter will feel really great.
